Broadway Across Canada announces exciting 2017/2018 theatre season

Get ready theatre queens: Broadway Across Canada has released the deets for the 2017/18 theatre season and it is looking like a delish dishing of live dramatics. While major cities across Canada will also play host to spectacular performances, the stunning Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, BC, is proud to welcome Broadway Across Canada, along with Broadway Across America, part of the Key Brand Entertainment Company, the largest presenter of touring musicals and plays in all of North America. Grab your bowties, don your best formal wear, and get ready for many amazing nights of theatre as Broadway Across Canada opens its newest season.

Phantom of the Opera

2017 opens with a bang of a new production of Andrew Lloyd Webbers’ Phantom of the Opera. From July 11-July 23, 2017, ticket holders will get to revel in a brand new production of the single most successful musical in history. This new production, brought to you by theatre mogul Cameron Mackintosh, features all new scenic design by Tony winner Paul Brown, Tony-Award winning original costume design by Maria Björnson, lighting design by Tony Award winner Paule Constable, new choreography by Scott Ambler, and a new staging by director Laurence Connor. This Phantom production will feature 52 cast members and orchestra, making it one of the largest productions on tour in the continent.

The Sound of Music

The hills will be alive as Broadway Across America present their second production of the year, The Sound of Music. This new vision of the timeless musical and movie will feature all the original Academy Award-winning score by legendary musical theatre composers Rodgers and Hammerstein. In a new production that the LA Times declared “Sparkling, fresh, and lively”, The Sound of Music will enjoy a run from September 12-17, 2017.

Jersey Boys

From November 14-19, 2017, Broadway Across Canada will present a new touring version of Jersey Boys. The multi-Tony Award-winning musical features the music and life stories of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. It’s the true story of 4 boys from Jersey who wrote their own music, invented their own songs, and went on to become one of the biggest acts in music history, selling more than 175 million records. Winner of the Tony for Best Musical, and recipient of a Grammy and Olivier Award, Jersey Boys features their hit songs “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Rag Doll,” “Oh What a Night” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.”

Motown the Musical

Wrapping up the 2017/2018 season is one of Broadway’s newest musicals: Motown the Musical. Running from February 6-11, 2018, Motown is the story of Motown Record’s founder Berry Gordy’s path from heavyweight boxer to music mogul who launched the careers of some of music’s biggest names, including Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, and more. This national tour is produced by Tony Award winning producer Kevin McCollum (Avenue Q, Rent, In the Heights), Sony Music Entertainment Chairman Doug Morris, and Motown records founder himself, Berry Gordy. This record breaking smash hit and features classics like My Girl and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.
