Being a chic gay man these days is all about venturing out and exploring new cultures and events. Sophisticated gay men are flocking to events, like horse racing, for a multitude of reasons, including high fashion, flamboyant cocktails, and afternoon excitement with friends. It’s time to make like an aristocrat and see what all the queens have their equestrian boots in a knot over.
Why are gays rushing to horse racing events? It isn’t just the bar with craft cocktails. Philanthropy is in, and is sexier than ever in these times. Horse racing events are fabulous fundraisers that balances sport, luxury, a chance to go out and be seen, and a fierce afternoon event that benefits charities. And the gays are living for it.
While there are many signature horse-racing events held in all regions, Vancouver’s Deighton Cup is celebrating its 9th annual tradition of being a high society fundraise series of eight horse races, a car show, fashion show, and catered picnic.
The Deighton Cup returns to Hastings Racetrack on Saturday, July 22, for another exciting day of fun. Whether donning riding boots, sporting tails and an ascot, carrying a riding whip, or simply have a love affair with all things equestrian, the time has come to make your way to the Deighton Cup decked to the nines looking to dress to impress while showing a little love with your wallet.
It’s no longer exciting to go out to your typical gar bar or club. Sunday Funday and brunches are cliché staples that also get a tired, week after week. So, when fab annual charity events like the Deighton Cup arrive, giving us ‘mos a chance to dress up, mix and mingle with elitists, and be all around fabulous at the horse races, it’s rare that queens will pass up the opportunity to indulge in such over-the-top festivities.
The Deighton Cup is your chance to put a fascinator in your hair, throw on a Kentucky Derby-esque bonnet, or just simply your Sunday best, and do your part to better humanity. All while looking gorgeous, sweetie!
