These are the top 10 things you need to know about LA Pride ’45:

LA Pride

  1. LA Pride Parade: The LA Pride Parade was the very first pride parade in the world. Today, it’s a star-studded event including well-known celebrity drag queens, activists, singers, movie stars, comedians and friends of the LGBT community. The parade has seen over 400,000 people lining the streets of West Hollywood to see the over-the-top costumes, floats, bands, and other parade entries. The high-energy, headline performer, best known for her hit songs Tik Tok, Love Is My Drug, We R Who We R, and Timber, will be performance not to miss. Ke$ha has had eight consecutive Top 10 hits and four #1 singles.

  1. Thunder Ground returns: The glory days of disco return to the LA Pride Festival for the second year in a row. VIP Experience pass holders (21 and up), can lace up a pair of roller-skates and enjoy a skate under the giant disco balls. There is a family skate on Saturday, June 13 from 12:00pm – 2:00pm. You can either bring your own skates or get a rental pair, which are included in the general ticket price.

Throughout his two decade long career Ty Herndon has pumped out 20 Billboard chart songs and sold over 5 million albums! Ty Herdon will be performing on the main stage Sunday evening at 6:30pm.

Have your smartphone camera ready and be sure to post your photos on Instagram and Twitter, tagging both @LAPride and #LAPride45.

LA Pride

  1. Love everyone: There will be leather daddy bears, cute twinks, over-the-top drag queens, muscle-clad jocks, drama queens, proud transsexuals, liberated lesbians, bigoted protesters, shirtless women, fun-loving bisexuals, innocent gay-friendly kids, generous volunteers, law-enforcing policemen, and everyone in-between. Coming out in Hollywood?

Tyler Glenn, lead singer of Neon Trees came out in April 2014 to Rolling Stone magazine

It seems a minor miracle that anyone can keep a secret in Hollywood. When the tabloid press seems to delight in reporting every bathing suit mishap, misconstrue every shared meal, and blatantly fabricate headlines whenever sales drop, it can be bewildering to even consider that some stars have managed to remain closeted long enough to come out.

Some actors, like Matt Bomer of White Collar fame, played it down; when he was honored by the Desert AIDS Fund in February of 2012, he thanked his partner, Simon, as well as their three kids. Others, like Ellen Page and Wanda Sykes, made their declarations more public, announcing their intentions at events where they felt their words would have the most impact.

Coming out is always an incredibly personal thing; for many people, including athletes like Jason Collins, the NBA center who came out in Sports Illustrated in 2013, they see may fear that their careers may suffer after their sexuality is made public. They may also fear the reactions of the people close to them.

Then there are the actors who come out, and the rest of the world says …uh-huh? Like Nathan Lane, Ellen DeGeneres, Ian McKellan, Ricky Martin, Jodie Foster. Their coming out stories feel like confirmation of what we already know, instead of shocker stories.

In history, there are so many figures about whom the full truth will probably never be known. No one can ask Cary Grant how he identified, after he lived with Randolph Scott for twelve years, or confirm the rumours regarding Eleanor Roosevelt.

A favorite coming out story, though, is that of Victor Garber, of Alias fame. In 2013, Garber spoke to blogger Greg Hernandez. Hernandez pressed Garber to confirm his long-term relationship with Rainer Andreesen. Hernandez later reported that Garber seemed surprised by the question. “I don’t really talk about it,” E!Online reported, “but everybody knows.”

It’s not just silver screen actors. Athletes, politicians, musicians and other well known public faces are coming out loud and proud, including Tyler Glenn, the lead singer of the hit alternative rock band, Neon Trees, who came out in the April 2014 edition of Rolling Stones magazine.

What’s your favorite celeb coming out tale?

Celebrities Nightclub to Receive Make-Over in 2013; Good or Bad?

One of Vancouver’s largest and popular night clubs is about to undergo a massive renovation starting January 2, 2013. When complete, the transformed night club will be able to compete with other international clubs, attracting a whole new line-up of DJs and performers.

Since 1980, Celebrities has been part of the social fabric in Vancouver’s Davie Village. The club has primarily focused on the LGBT community, however, in recent years the club has started to evolve into a more diverse crowd and become less focused on attracting the gay dance crowd.

“We’ve seen Celebrities go through a lot of exciting changes over the years, but it’s been imperative to us that the heart and soul of Celebrities always remains the same,” explained Bill Kerasiotis, one of the owners that holds the license to the club, “With the core untouched, we’ve been able to ensure this cherished club experiences continued, ageless success.”

The announcement of the renovations is very vague when it comes to how the club will be positioned post-renovation. While the owners still want to appeal to the LGBT community, they also express that they want to open up the venue to attract a straight audience; something that has not been popular with the Vancouver gay community for many years.

“The goal of this revamp is to make Celebrities better than ever and to enhance what it’s come to be known for, and that’s namely amazing dance music within a superior club setting,” said Alvaro Prol, co-owner of Celebrities Nightclub. “It’s important that those who have supported us over the years know these improvements will only reflect and heighten that sentiment. We pride ourselves on being one of the best dance clubs on the West Coast, and want to ensure Celebrities continues to evolve over the years in order to live up to its name and legacy”.

Celebrities hopes to attract a higher caliber of DJs and performers after the renovation is complete, including Tiesto, David Guetta, Skrillex, Boy George and Ru Paul.

The club will outfitted with the latest technology, lighting, sound and aesthetics, and will unveil a new feature, which will remain under wraps until the club’s grand re-opening party in early February 2013. Celebrities will be announcing a brand new Saturday club-night that will launch with the club’s reopening.

Before Celebrities closes for renovations, there are a number of holiday parties lined up including Boy George and the annual New Years Eve celebration. Tickets are available for these events online.

Jack’s Bar-B-Que, Nashville

Oprah Winfrey, Dolly Parton, Travis Tritt, Bono, the Boston Bruins, Vince Gill, Gene Simmons, and Amy Grant all share one thing in common; they’ve all ate at the legendary Jack’s Bar-B-Que in Nashville, Tennessee. It’s easy to see why, the make the most amazing, smoked hickory barbeque!

The magic all starts with the grill masters applying a special mix of spices, called a dry rub, to the meat, and then letting it slow roast for 18 hours at 250’. The result is authentic smoked barbeque meat, with a pink smoke ring around the edge. This is classic Tenessee barbeque at it’s best!

Having barbeque means you’re gunna get a bit messy – the baked beans are awesome!

At Jack’s Bar-B-Que, they serve Pit to Plate, meaning the meat comes from the smoker to be slices and served right to the plate. It’s hand made every day. The selection is so vast it’s hard to choose – from Tennessee pork shoulder and Texas beef brisket, to St. Louis style ribs and smoked chicken. Pair it with the variety of six different finishing sauces for a taste sensation that will leave your hands sticky and your mouth watering for more.

Jack’s Bar-B-Que has been serving up smoked meats since 1976. Their neon sign has become a landmark in Nashville – being featured in movies, music videos and on souvenir items.

Take home Jack’s legendary barbeque sauces and rubs.

If you find yourself in or near Nashville, you must make your way to Jack’s – you’re gunna enjoy the most amazing, traditional southern barbeque and maybe get a lil messy along the way – don’t worry, it’s all part of the experience.

The 2012 Christopher Street West LA Pride Parade was a star-studded event as well-known celebrity drag queens, activists, singers, movie stars, comedians and friends of the LGBT community came to out support the annual event. Mardi Gras Returns to Davie Village, Supports Friends for Life

Bourbon Street, New Orleans

This past summer I had the opportunity to experience New Orleans for five days. It was an amazing experience – from the jazz music to the riverboats, to swamping tours and Prawlines. The most memorable part was Bourbon Street – the music, the dancing, the people and the culture. I’m sure back in the Big Easy they are gearing up for their biggest time of year, Mardi Gras!

This Saturday, February 25, 2012, the Davie Street businesses in Vancouver are getting together to throw the biggest Mardi Gras bash to help raise funds for the Friends for Life Society.

With the economy sputtering along, the Friends for Life Society, a not-for-profit society that delivers nutritional meals to people living with HIV/AIDS in Vancouver, the Davie Street businesses have brought back the popular event to help the financially struggling organization.

Little Sisters Bookstore and Priape have wristbands on-sale now which will get patrons into most of the bars in the Davie Street Village including Numbers, FountainHead Pub, Pumpjack, Oasis, Junction, and Celebrities Nightclub. The wristbands will include cover and VIP privilege, and most importantly, proceeds from the sales will go to Friends for Life.

Celebrities Nightclub will be going all-out by hosting the Mardi Gras Ball – complete with masks and beads. DJ Drew and Matilda Ho will have the dance floor moving all night long, and there will be performances throughout the night by Mantra Mmx, The House of Celebs and the very hot Celebrities Go Go dancers. There will be prizes for the best costumes and masks – so get creative.

Last year I was in Atlanta for Mardi Gras and this year I look forward to celebrating with masks, beads, friends and maybe a drink or two along the Davie Street village.

This week kicks off Vancouver Pride 2010. Pride means different things to different people. It’s an opportunity to raise awareness, make a political stand, gather and celebrate diversity with friend and family, and to have a hot summer party!

This year’s Vancouver Pride theme is “liberate”. The Vancouver Pride Society says,

“The Vancouver Pride Society adopted a three-year theme of Educate, Liberate, Celebrate focusing on one of the three elements each year. In 2010, we focus on Liberate and what it means to be free.”

This year there are 10 official events taking place including the TELUS Davie Street Dance Party, the Sunset Beach Pride Festival and of course the Pride Parade.

There are also a number of other non-sanctioned events that happen all over the city. New this year is the Sunday afternoon pool party at the Westin and the Rainbow Party at 560 Night Club on Seymour Street. Celebrities again this year is offering VIP passes for all five days for $70. Many of the other bars, pubs, restaurants and shops are offering spectacular Pride Week specials.
