It’s not only our summer bodies that we should worry about right now, we should also consider our grooming. Manscaping is definitely something that we should have in mind for the upcoming season, so perhaps it’s high time we spoke about it. All of us indulge into men’s body grooming (also known as ’manscaping’), and it seems that we rarely talk about it, even in the gay community. However, it’s actually very helpful to talk about it as there are plenty of men out there who would love to take care of their bodies but simply don’t know how. Take a look at the 10 most important manscaping tips for this summer – follow them and be an updated version of yourself:

1. Don’t mix your tools

What’s very important to know is that you shouldn’t really multitask with your equipment and your tools. If you’re trimming, for example, have a designated pair of scissors for your pubes, and another one for your beard or another part of your body. Not only are there certain bacteria and yeast that live in your pubes which you certainly don’t want to spread across your body, but it’s also gross to think about it.

2. The starters

In order to manscape properly, you need to lay your groundwork first. If you, for example, have longer pubes, you don’t want to go all razor on them straight away. This will cause an unpleasant feeling and skin irritations like razor burns, itching or stubble. If your hair is too long, consider trimming them first using clippers or a trimmer. Bear in mind that your pubes have more curl to them, so it’s easier for them to curl back into the skin and cause ingrown hair, which can be rather painful

3. Relax your body

In the breaks of shaving, it would be very good to learn how to make your body relax. One way is to go to regular massages, or simply get yourself a spa treatment that you wanted so much. This is a great option to consider even if you’re travelling somewhere, so checking out various spa treatments and finding something that suits you is not only very healthy, but it furthermore helps you in your manscaping as well. Keeping your body hair moist and hydrating it is a great way to ensure comfortable manscaping in the long run.

4. Wet shaving

Speaking of keeping your hair moist, make sure never to shave any part of your body without wetting the hairs. Doing so while you’re taking a hot shower will make the whole process much more comfortable and more importantly, easier.

5. Know how to shave

In order to properly shave, you need to know the direction you should be taking. For example, if you want to get smooth, you want to shave in the direction of hair growth, not against the grain. This is also a great way to prevent any irritation or bumps.

6. Mind your balls

Probably the trickiest part to take care of is your testicles. Not only are you extremely uncomfortable shaving this delicate body part with a razor, but it can also be quite dangerous if you make the wrong move. Be as it may, be extra careful when you’re tending to your balls. It’s also very important not to make any minor cuts or lacerations, as these areas are known to trap bacteria.

7. Your skincare routine

Once you’re done with taking care of your body hair, it’s time to focus on your skincare routine, another crucial component of your manscaping ritual. Now, you want to remember the Holy Trinity of skincare – the cleanser, the moisturizer and the exfoliator. As far as the cleanser and moisturizer are concerned, make sure to use them twice a day – once in the morning and once before you go to sleep. If you want to be extra, use two different moisturizers – one for the day and one for the night.

8. The importance of exfoliation

No matter if you have facial hair or not, exfoliation is an important step in your skincare routine. This serves in order to clean all the dead cells from the outer layer of your face and thus give your face that freshness that it needs. If you’re a beardsman, this is yet another reason why you should exfoliate, especially underneath your beard.

9. Opt for a facial massage

Just like with any other part of your body, you want to keep those muscles relaxed. It’s a bit more difficult to do this with the muscles of your face, mostly due to the fact that you’re constantly using them whenever you’re talking, breathing or smiling. Opting for a face massage will give you that recharge that you need.

10. Take care of your eyebrows

Lastly, don’t forget to pluck your eyebrows. Yes, perhaps you want your thick masculine eyebrows to be the representation of you, but there’s really no excuse for eyebrows that are not taken care of. Make sure to say goodbye to the monobrow that you might have, and keep your eyebrows neat and clean.

These are the most important manscaping lessons that you need to know by heart for this summer. Make sure to read them all and apply them – you will see how better you will feel about yourself.
