Winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 5 and titled America’s Next Drag Superstar, Jinkx Monsoon was a hit with the thousands of fans during Vancouver Pride’s Davie Street Dance Party on Friday, August 1.
The crowd went wild as the high-energy drag queen sang live, belting out some of her most popular songs, to which they sang along. The highlight for the Canadian audience was when Jinkx sang Blame Canada and fell into the audiences’ arms.
Jinkx real name is Jerick Hoffer. He was born in Portland, Oregon. Jerick came out when he was in middle school and began performing in drag when he was 16 years old. Throughout high school and post secondary, Jerick focused his studies in live theatre and performing arts.
Since 2006, Jerick has lived in Seattle, Washington. He has held a number of lead and supporting roles both in movies and in live theatre. His drag identity, Jinkx Monsoon, is inspired by his mother, along with influences of Lucille Ball, Maria Bamford, Deven Green, and Sarah Silverman. Jinkx is one of a few drag queens who sings live, not to recorded music.
