PowerBar's 3-step nutrition line-upRunners, cyclists and other high-endurance cardio sport participants know the secret to having a great workout is ensuring they have fueled their body. It is very important to get the right type of nutrition before, during and after each workout. PowerBar has helped simplify the process for active people on the go, based on nutrition programs for professional sport athletes.

An hour before each run it’s important to pre-energize with a mix of carbohydrates and protein. Protein is long, slow burning fuel and carbohydrates are faster burning fuel. The PowerBar Sport Energy bar has the ideal blend of carbohydrates and protein required for a mid-distance run.

While running, the first 40 minutes the body will start by burning simple sugars compounds and slowly start to tap into stored fuel. For runs over an hour, mid or long distance, the body requires additional nutrition. On a cycle ever 20 minutes, starting from the time your run commences, alternate between water and PowerBar gels. These gels are packed with carbohydrates and sugars. These gels are also quick energy, which allows the body to burn this new fuel, rather than using stored fuel or drawing from muscles. Each gel should also include a bit of water to increase absorption rate. Some even come with caffeine, to help stay awake, critical on longer runs like a marathon.

As soon as the workout is complete, it’s essential to drink water and re-fuel with 20-25 grams or protein. This is where the PowerBar Protein Plus bar comes in handy. It’s easy to chew and is chalk-full of protein. Protein helps muscles to recover and rebuild quickly.

Each of the PowerBar products come in a variety of flavours. Experiment with them to see which ones work best for you.

It’s important to keep in mind these products are only a portion of a complete nutrition program required to fuel the body. For maximum results, consult a sports nutritionist to put together a complete program based on your specific activities.
