Hotel lobby bars can be a lot of fun. They are an eclectic mix of travellers from around the world. A good lobby bar brings people together in a lively social setting, offering handcrafted cocktails and quality fare, all at a reasonable price.
Grain Tasting Bar, located in the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Vancouver is a great example of a modern lobby bar. The space is decorated in contemporary style, with touches of wood, metal, stone and fabric. The space is lit during the day by natural sunlight through the giant wall of windows, and a night, the lights come on creating a wonderful social mood.
Serving local spirits is something Grain Tasting Bar prides themselves on. They work with distilleries around British Columbia, including Long Table vodka and Gin, to serve up premium handcrafted cocktails and martinis. Most lobby bars only have four to ten premium cocktails on their menu, but Grain Tasting Bar has about 20 original cocktails, all with fun names like the Sea to Sky and Lions Gate, named after local landmarks.
The devil is in the details when it comes to the food. The sauces are all freshly made in house and small touches like heated pita chips all make for a more enjoyable dining experience. From a traditional pulled pork sliders with coleslaw filling to charcuterie platters, there’s something on the menu for everyone.
