Gay porn star and producer Brandon Jones gives his advice on what it takes to make it into the adult entertainment industry.Gay porn star and producer Brandon Jones has been in the industry for three years (and might be for 60 more based on a recent interview), and is ready to share his advice on becoming a gay porn star.

The first item to consider before doing porn, Brandon says, is your mental state.

“You have to know who you are and what you want in life,” Brandon said. “Be in this industry not because you need money or attention but because you are interested in your sexuality or you are an exhibitionist in some way. Love modeling, and love the camera.”

Fame is no easy feat, and it won’t come overnight. Brandon suggests being yourself and marketing yourself if you want to have a successful career in porn.

“Be yourself all the time. Be open-minded. Don’t be shy,” Brandon said. “Understand marketing because it’s all about that – you market yourself.”

While being yourself, you must also learn to differentiate between your life outside of porn and life as a porn star.

“Be able to be detached. There is you, and there is the porn star. It is important to have the difference between those two lines,” Brandon said.

Another important factor is the type of porn you want to do. For Brandon, big studios are the answer.

“I do porn for a big studio. I don’t work for a little website and do trashy bondage,” Brandon said. “I have something to show that I am proud of, I can stand by, and I can defend. Without that, you won’t have the respect of the people around you.”

The world has become more open-minded over the last several decades, and anyone can be a porn star, Brandon says.

“Get out there. Be seen. Show yourself,” he advised. “Use social media. Post pictures of yourself naked. Try to create a fan base even before you shoot your first scene.”

According to Brandon, porn studios watch Twitter accounts.

“The more followers you have, the more popularity you will have,” Brandon said. “It’s important to have the love of the people before the love of the industry.”
