Ever wonder what your favorite porn star does to keep his skin fresh and dewy for his close-ups? Curious how you can replicate that look at home? Founder of Bare Essentials Skin Bar, Amy Sahota, tells us that all it takes to have porn star skin is a little planning, and routine maintenance.

When a guy is headed to the beach, Amy says the most important thing he can do to protect his skin is use products with an SPF. “You can still tan if you have an SPF,” she says. “In the spa, our busiest month is September; people come in with skin damage and skin dehydration.”

SPF is, without question, the best protection against the damage that the sun can do while it gives you a golden glow. Your daily moisturizer should already contain SPF, and be part of your daily routine. Keeping your skin moist and hydrated helps you avoid lines and wrinkles. “A good hydrating mask once or twice a week is easy to do and will keep your skin looking nice and dewy,” Amy says. “Everyone wants that young, healthy look.”

And what about bacne? According to Amy, lumps and bumps on the back and shoulders often have more to do with shaving and exfoliating the extra oils that cause facial acne. “When you remove the hair, the pore is empty, which means it can fill up with oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells.” To avoid this unattractive, non-beach-ready look, a guy should plan to prep his skin pre-hair removal, and care for it afterwards.

“For prep,” Amy advises, “cleanse the skin beforehand, using a cleanser containing salicylic acid, which will kill any bacteria on the surface of the skin. If you’re shaving, use a beard softener, and let that sit for a minute to reduce the coarseness of the hair. Absolutely do not dry shave! Use a shaving cream, and shave in the direction of the hair growth, not against it. Afterwards, use a post-shaving balm and a moisturizer to reduce redness and irritation.”
