In addition to being the Grand Marshal at the parade, Demi Lovato also performed at the LA Pride Festival on the main stage and was handed the key to West Hollywood in a special ceremony.
“I have been an active advocate of the LGBT community and am wholly committed to supporting individuality and being comfortable in one’s own skin,” said Demi Lovato in an earlier interview. “I am thrilled to be a part of [LA Pride], as they are a wonderful celebration of independence and self-confidence.”
Joining Demi Lovato was filmmaker, writer, speaker, and advocate for LGBT rights, Shane Bitney Crone. Shane lost his partner of six years is an accident in 2011, was denied all rights of information about his partners death and his life was threatened by his partners family, saying it was his fault that their son was gay. Shane produced a YouTube video which has received over 4 million views, telling his story and asking people to speak up for change.
Following LA Pride, Demi Lovato will also be performing at NYC Pride at the legendary Dance on the Pier on Sunday, June 29.
“Demi Lovato is an amazing role model for today’s youth, both LGBT and non-LGBT, for her activism in the area of equality, positive messaging on body image, and level of openness with her struggles. As a community, we’re fortunate to have an ally like Demi,” said Patti DiLuigi, Co-President of Christopher Street West, producers of LA Pride.
