West Hollywood Park was bursting with entertainment, performers, activities, and members from across the gay community last weekend for the largest LGBT gathering in Southern California, the LA Pride Festival 2014.
Held Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8, the LA Pride Festival featured distinct entertainment zones. The focal area was the main stage, located in the centre of the park. Performers including Jennifer Hudson, Demi Lovato, and The Bangles kept the thousands of festival attendees entertained throughout the entire weekend.
New for 2014 was Thunder Ground, an outdoor roller skating rink complete with disco balls and club lighting. Attendees could grab a pair of roller skates and show off their skating skills or skate around with a group of friends.
There were two other music stages set up, the Hip Hop stage towards the back corner, and the Latino stage, adjacent to the main stage. The highlight on the Latino stage was a performance by Deborah Cox.
Upon entering the festival grounds was a large selection of vendors ranging from volunteer and not-for-profit organizations, to corporate sponsors who actively support the LGBT community. A local and not-for-profit area straddled the area between the main stage and the Latino stage. In the back corner, but far from being tucked away, was the adult zone, with kink, fetish and adult entertainment vendors.
The entire festival ground area was open for liquor consumption with vendors pouring everything from vodka and beer, to hurricanes and rum-based drinks.
Overall, it was a perfect weekend of clear, blue sunny skies, well organized concerts, and plenty of food, drink, activities and entertainment for all the attendees. The LA Pride Festival 2014 is one of, if not the best, pride festival events held in North America. If you’ve never been, put it on your radar for 2015!
