Drag queens and transgendered individuals are a quintessential part of the gay community. South Beach on Heels, a multi-award-winning film, is a full-length documentary that chronicles the lives of these beautiful queens as they entertain in vibrant clubs of South Beach, Florida.
South Beach on Heels is directed by Dmitry Zhitov and has been touring the film festival circuit over the past year, racking up an astounding 12 awards from around the world, after debuting at the 2014 Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.
“’South Beach On Heels’ follows the onstage, backstage and offstage lives of eight hard working drag and trans entertainers,” says Zhitov. “My film explores the fascinating and amazing people behind the make-up, jewels and wigs. Through the film, moviegoers learn what it takes to stay tough as nails in an industry built on big hair, big dreams and illusion.”
While the film is about drag queens and the transgendered community, it portrays the hope, tolerance, courage, and acceptance in the LGBT community.
“The diversity of the characters in the film mirrors the diversity of the drag and trans communities we encounter in our everyday lives,” said Zhitov.
