Finally, you can dust off those sports wheels and pop the top on your convertible. Summer is here and cars, much like the weather, are about to get hotter. Summer is also known for bringing plenty of road trips with Pride events, festivals and summer vacations happening every weekend.

Tips for getting your car ready for the summer

It’s in these summer months that it’s extremely important to make sure your vehicle is running smoothly, especially when travelling long distances, such as on road trips. You really don’t want to be breaking down and missing out on all the action. And when you do show up, you want to make sure you car looks ah-mazing! This is why you should use these 5 tips to keep your car in good health and ready to take you where ever your heart desires.

Tips for getting your car ready for the summer

Tip #1

Always check the pressure of your tires. Flat tires are the primary cause of cars breaking down. Luckily they are easily avoidable. All you need to do is check your air at the gas station before you head out. Fill up when your low and you’re good to go. Also make sure you make the switch from winter tires to all-season, for a better, smoother, and more fuel-efficient drive.

Tip #2

Check your fluid levels. It’s extremely important to check your coolant and oil situation. Going low in either can have serious consequences on the health of your engine. Insufficient coolant can lead to your car overheating, especially on steep hills. Lack of oil can cause your engine to run slower and in a worst-case scenario, seize up completely. Make sure you change your oil and coolant whenever the levels even start to dip. If it’s a longer road trip, have your mechanic check the power steering, power breaks, and transmission fluids too.

Tip #3

Make sure your alignment and suspension are checked. The alignment and suspension on your car don’t need to be checked often but they definitely need to be checked every three months or so. Bad alignment and suspension can cause expensive damage to the driveterrain of your car or could lead to car accidents.

My family and I like to travel a lot in the summer, so I appreciate this information on how we can get our car ready to go. I like how you point out the importance of getting your alignment and suspension checked, because I think that that can easily fall through the cracks. I imagine that it would be a good idea to get them checked whenever the car is feeling like it is running as well as it should, too. Thanks for these insights!
