Gone are the days of standard incandescent and harsh fluorescent lighting. With smart home technology, you can easily transform your home to reflect the mood of the room from a table, smartphone, or smart watch, creating the perfect ambiance. It’s called the Philips Hue, and it is revolutionizing how people think about lighting their spaces. But it goes much deeper than that.

Philips Hue bridge

To get started, a Philips Hue starter kit contains three light bulbs and the Hue Bridge. Simply plug in and sync the bridge with the Philips Hue app on your TELUS smartphone, smart watch, and/or tablet, and replace standard incandescent bulbs with the Philips Hue bulbs, and you’re pretty much set and ready to go. Set-up is done in less than 10 minutes! Each light bulb is rated for 15,000 hours of continuous use, which works out to over 5 years, plus they are energy efficient.

The Philips Hue app is where the real magic begins. Once the light bulbs are installed, the bridge is up and running, and the lights are synced, you can get started on creating incredible lighting. There are pre-set environments, from various shades of white light for relaxing, concentrating, reading, and energizing. You can also transform the room into a magical escape like a Savannah sunset, tropical twilight, arctic aurora, or spring blossoms; each escape using the power of colour to create these settings.

While you can make manual adjustments to the settings on individual light bulbs yourself, the true beauty and genius of Philips Hue is in the additional features designed to help you make the most of your lighting. You can upload photos, or use the photos provided in the app to help you design lighting moods and from here you can manually adjust individual elements to get all of those details perfect.

On top of creating lighting, you can pre set timers to turn lights on at certain times with specific settings, have your lights turn on and off slowly to mimic sunrise/sunset, and fall asleep and wake up in a more natural, gentle way than with a noisy alarm.

The Philips Hue can also be used as part of home security. Easily connected to Nest Cam, the Philips Hue will automatically turn on lights when the Nest Cam notices motion activity in the room. The mobile app also allows you to turn on and off the lights remotely. There is even an emergency light setting, which will flash between white and red, which can alert neighbours or passers by of a situation.

The starter kit, including the Hue Bridge and three bulbs, is available through TELUS for just $199. It will revolutionize your ability to change your home to suite your ever-changing needs. You can also get other Philips Hue accessories including additions light bulbs, rope lights, dimmer switches, remote controls, lamps, and motion sensors, to create the ultimate home lighting experience.

Transform your home into a real smart home. The Phillips Hue, and many other devices including the Nest Cam and August Lock, and the Parrot Flower Power, are just some of the many fantastic smart home technology products available from TELUS.
