Nobody does live entertainment better than Cirque du Soleil. The Montreal-based circus troupe has been wowing audiences for more than 3 decades and are bringing one of their most celebrated pieces back to Vancouver. For a two-month, limited engagement, Cirque du Soleil’s Kurios-Cabinet of Curiosities, returns to Vancouver October 19- December 31, 2017, for those curiously interested.
Kurios-Cabinet of Curiosities is the story of a 19th century inventor, the Seeker, wanting to reinvent everything around him and turn his world upside down. He invents a cabinet of curiosities that enables him to do just that, and soon, everything is in reverse and inverted. Soon up is down, left is right, dark is light, visible is invisible, and the cabinet of curiosities allows the seeker to explore a side of things he never thought possible, leaving the audience with many breathtaking moments.
Hailed as one of the best Cirque du Soleil shows, Kurios Cabinet of Curiosities has been on tour since 2014. It spun a 13-episode web series featuring what it is to be like to be a performer in Kurios and on tour. Kurios features 114 performers, crew members, and musicians from more than 20 countries. Kurios has over 100 costumes and 426 props, making it the most of any Cirque du Soleil show. 65 trucks transport the production from city to city across North America. And when the performance arrives in Vancouver, it will take 6 days to build the big top and subsequent other tents.
Kurios features a multitude of fantastic acrobatics and insane, death-defying acts with a jazz/electric swing score to hum along to. An aerial bicycle, yo-yo act, net jumps, contortion, acro-net, invisible circus, trapeze, hand puppetry, aerial Siamese twins, juggler, dancing, and an upside-down performance are just some of the extraordinary and fascinating acts that Cirque du Soleil conjures during Kurios-Cabinet of Curiosities.
Kurios-Cabinet of Curiosities is Cirque du Soleil’s 35th production in the 33 years the troupe has been entertaining the 600+ cities in the world on 6 continents. Written and Directed by Michael Laprise, Kurios returns to Vancouver after its initial tour in 2014 from October – December 2017. With music composed by Raphaël Beau, Guy Dubuc, and Marc Lessard, set design by Stéphane Roy, Creative Directing by Chantal Tremblay, and acrobatic performance designers Rob Bollinger, Germain Guillemot, and Boris Verkhovsky, Kurios-Cabinet of Curiosities is a must-see live entertainment experience!
