While Americans celebrate Veteran’s Day, Canada will also take a national day of remembrance for those who have served to protect Canada as well on November 11. Remembrance Day celebrates Canada’s history as a global peace keeper and strong and pivotal alley during both World Wars. Poppy flowers are proudly worn to honor and remember at Remembrance Day memorials across the nation. And glasses are raised in celebrations of those who have come before that helped make Canada one of the greatest nations.
The Lest We Forget cocktail pays homage to the brave men and women who have served to protect our rights and freedoms as Canadians. The Lest We Forget features our un-official national spirit, rye whisky. This is the Canadian version of an Old Fashioned, tried and true, remaining throughout the decades, and a classic Canadian cocktail.
What you’ll need:
- 1 maple sugar candy
- 2 dashes bitters
- 2 oz rye whisky
Place maple sugar candy in the bottom of an old-fashioned glass, then add bitters. Muddle these contents into a paste, adding one large ice cube. Pour in rye whisky. Cut a long strip of lemon peel over the glass, then gently pinch, peeling the side out, misting the oils over the drink. Lastly, rub the peel around the outside rim of the glass, and finish by adding it to cocktail.
