A classic winter warmer cocktail whose history dates back for well over 100 years, the Irish Coffee has been a staple of an alcoholic beverage served in the colder months since World War II. True Irish Coffee combines the best of three worlds: whiskey, coffee, and whipped cream to make a deliciously decadent drink.
What’s great about Irish Coffee is its versatility in preparing and enjoying this cocktail. Old school recipes call for a dash of brown sugar and heavy cream. But the turnt up 2018 version goes for the gold with brown and granulated sugar, and whipped cream on top. Irish Coffee makes a great cocktail after ice skating, skiing, sledding, and other outdoor activities thanks to its warmth. Or Irish coffee could be simply enjoyed at home in front of the fireplace. Whichever you choose, take a sip of warmth this winter with the Irish Coffee.
What you’ll need:
- 1 ½ oz Irish whiskey
- 6 oz hot, freshly brewed coffee
- 1 tsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp packed brown sugar
- Fresh whipped cream
Preheat heatproof mug with hot water. Discard water and fill mug ¾ full of coffee. Add granulated and brown sugars and stir until dissolved. Add whiskey and stir. Top with whipped cream.
