British Columbia’s third largest city is gearing up for another spectacularly gay week. Kelowna, the gateway to the Okanagan Valley, will again play hostess to a week of sexy, hot, fun activities for the annual Kelowna Pride, which is certain to be will be a rainbow weekend to remember!
The Okanagan Valley, Canada’s outdoor playground destination, already has a reputation for being an open and inclusive community. Kelowna, the region’s largest city, will see and entire week of celebrating starting this August 11 running through until August 18, 2018. With many of the events in and out of Waterfront Park, Kelowna Pride will have a little something for everyone that attends.
The unofficial/ official kick off for Kelowna Pride week will be the affiliate pride picnic event Pandosy Village Community Picnic for Pride. This will be a fun all-inclusive outdoor picnic for anyone and everyone to attend on August 11.
On Monday, August 13, there will be two screenings. First, the screening of the short film A Mile in Our Moccasins. Co-created by 5 Indigenous youth who founded the Indigenous You Speaker Series meant to develop and provide information about sexual health, HIV/AIDS, and sexual guidance to the Indigenous Community, A Mile in Our Moccasins, a story of resilience, healing, and empowerment. There will also be a screening of the short film Strong Medicine, which is an educational video produced by the Canadian Aboriginal AIDS Network and CATIE for Indigenous people living with HIV.
On Thursday, August 16, 2018 will be the annual trans march and social immediately following the march in Stuart Park. Friday will see a new drag queen super star crowned as Kelowna’s Next Drag Superstar competition goes down on August 17. Friday night will feature the kickoff party to the entire pride weekend: FruitCake the official Drag Superstar Competition after party.
Saturday, August 18, 2018 will be the big day for all things Kelowna gay! The official Okanagan/ Kelowna gay Pride march will take place beginning at 12:45pm. The march will wind through the friendly streets of Kelowna and will end at the festival in Stuart Park. There, vendors, music, arts, crafts, amazing food, and plenty of entertainment will be had at Kelowna’s Pride festival.
