Who would have guessed the fall was a good time to drop a new album? Several artists think it’s a great idea to heat up our autumn music playlists with new releases. We might have already gotten our “Despacito” hot summer track of the year out of Cardi B with “I Like It’, but there are some juicy new boptastic records that have recently hit the airwaves or about to drop that have all the gay boys excited for more dance music to come. Here are some new music releases this fall destined to turn up the heat on these cool months.
Topping the list is DJ Sigala. With the release of his highly anticipated debut album, Sigala has been building a name for himself since his breakout dance hits “Easy Love” and “Sweet Lovin”, both released in 2015. Now with his new album Brighter Days, Sigala has paired up with some of the biggest names in music: Paloma Faith, Meghan Trainor, Kylie Minogue, John Newman, Nile Rodgers, Craig David, Ella Eyre, Sean Paul, Flo Rida, The Vamps, and Imani, to present a gorgeous debut album full of plenty of dancealicious tracks. “Lullaby” with Paloma Faith is already a massive dance hall hit.
Next up is Robyn. All the gays have been missing their favorite little Swedish sprite ever since she slayed the music industry in 2010 with her 3-part seventh album Body Talk. Her work with Royksopp and a few others since hasn’t been enough to wet pop music pallets. So, Robyn is set to release her 8th album October 28th called Honey. She’s released two of the singles from this upcoming record that are very electro synth pop: “Missing You”, an ode to her fans, and the title track, “Honey”. Robyn always has some wild cards up her sleeve, so you won’t be Dancing on Your Own at the end of October. Call Your Girlfriend: Robyn is back!
Kim Petras. Y’all: Kim Petras done pulled a Beyoncé and dropped a new record with very little notice. She’d been hinting on her social media and teased about a new record back in August, but now the full album, or at least the first half, is available for purchase and streaming. Turn Off the Light, Vol.1 is a Halloween-spirited darker twist for the electro pop, LGBT icon who is known for being one of the few mainstream trans pop stars. Her new single from the album, “Heart to Break” is out now, and she will be touring alongside out gay popstar Troye Sivan across North America throughout October and November.
Last but CERTAINLY not least in this list of new music this fall is none other than diva icon legend: Cher. After her guest starring role as the grandmother in the summer romantic comedy Mama Mia 2, Chaz’ mom decided she hadn’t had enough ABBA in her life. So, she decided to record an entire album of nothing but ABBA tracks called Dancing Queen. Her first single off the record “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme” reminded the gays of Madonna’s “Hung Up” which used samples from the original “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme” song by ABBA. Mix the two with Cher and the result was a fun little end of summer bop to get everyone thirsty for more. Dancing Queenwas released on September 28.
***Honorable mention: Gay Instagram star John Duff. A friend of many high profile drag queens, independent gay artist John Duff’s first single, “Girly,” might have been played at a kiki near you towards summer’s end. The music video pays homage to pop stars like Madonna, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, and Britney Spears. It’s gay, AF catchy, and might solidly Duff as an out gay pop star force to be reckoned with in the years to come.
