Move over Andrew Christian: there is a new trophy boy in town who might make us all forget about porn stars in skimpy underwear. Released on October 22 on Vimeo, and October 24 on Dekkoo, Trophy Boy is an all new award-winning short film about James, a sexy NYC social influencer and #bestlife poser who has to face the reality of life away from social media upon being dumped by his sugar daddy. With an almost Black Mirror-esque all too real plot and story, Trophy Boy is the queer film to watch this fall.
Trophy Boy depicts the downward spiral of James – a spoiled handsome narcissist, who appears to have it all, based on his social media accounts. However, right before his 30th birthday, his much older boyfriend, from which James is financially dependent, breaks up with him and he must face the harsh reality of creating a life without a hashtag after he is dumped by his wealthy benefactor. James now must face real life with no work experience and no idea where to start actually building his life versus collecting “followers”.
Trophy Boy has had over 1,000 shares and 17,700 views in its first 24 hours! Written by Anthony Johnston, a series writer for CBS show Instinct, Trophy Boy stars and was directed by Emrhys Cooper and co-stars Johnston and Gerald McCullough, known from the Bear City movies.
Trophy Boy, premiered on Sunday October at the SoHo House New York, with actor Zachary Quinto, partner Miles McMillan, Instagram star Eric Rutherford, Oliver Jeffers, and Sofia Belhouari in attendance for its debut. Trophy Boy was screened at the Cannes Film Festival as well as the Vancouver and Chelsea film festivals. Meanwhile, a Trophy Boy TV series is in development by a well-known company.
