June is a great month for trying new things, as well as adhering to classic standards. Sure, you can spend hours in the kitchen or at the bar coming up with the ultimate summer cocktail. But you might want to rest on your laurels and lean on a traditional cocktail to be your drink du summer.
The Mai Thai is a legendary drink that looks more like a party in a glass than a serious alcoholic beverage. The Mai Thai, however, is nothing to blush at. It’s like a stunning beach scene from Thailand in every sip. It’s even super cool to watch being made as the dark and white rum mix together like some kind of science project.
Relax, put your feet up, and transport yourself to a desert island—even if you can’t get away—by sipping on the decadent drink of the summer: The Mai Thai. It’s a staple of a drink every kween should keep in their bartender book.
- 1 ½ oz white rum
- ¾ oz dark rum
- ½ oz orange liqueur
- ½ oz fresh lime juice
- ½ oz orgeat syrup
Shake all ingredients except the dark rum together in a mixer with ice. Strain into glass filled with fresh ice and float the dark rum onto the top. Garnish with a slice of pineapple and a fresh mint sprig.
