This is the first time the United States has hosted a WorldPride, and the City That Never Sleeps is pulling out all the stops to make sure WorldPride 2019 is the best Pride Festival ever. Bigger, bolder, and brighter, New York City is going gay gay gay by lighting up the NYC skyline in rainbow through a special collaborative with numerous locations around the Big Apple.

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, this year’s NYC Pride was destined to be different. But the culmination of New York Pride, Stonewall 50, and WorldPride left organizers tasked with showcasing the queer rights movement and LGBT community the best way possible.

Project Rainbow—as it is affectionately being called, like it is some gay James Bond mission, is being organized by NYC & Company: the official visitor’s bureau, destination marking organizers and convention heads for New York. The 4+ million extra visitors to America’s biggest city will be awe-inspired at the displays of expression of LGBTQ+ representation and acceptance through the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island, while aligned to the celebration and Stonewall‘s 50th anniversary extravaganza.

“New York City is the birthplace of the modern LGBTQ rights movement and has played a significant role in the progress the global movement has made. This month our City will host WorldPride to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall uprising.  Lighting our skyline will remind LGBTQ people around the world that New York City will always be a beacon of hope and a place to call home,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio.
