In honor of our recent partnership with the Graduate Hotel in Tempe, Arizona, the HomoCulture is pleased to present the recipe for a gorgeous little cocktail taught to us just in time to share with HomoCulture readers.

The Prickly Pear Sour comes straight from the hot desert of southwestern America in Tempe, Arizona. The Graduate Hotel’s exquisite bar the Normal Bar, offers up an adult beverage reminiscent of the spikey cacti the line its city streets, with a decadent finish.

Who says cocktails can’t be served in your grandmother’s china cup? The Prickly Pear Sour comes cutely presented in a tea cup, complete with lemon peel garnish. Whether it’s for a high tea, enjoying the high desert heat, or simply trying to cool off, we salute the Normal Bar at the Graduate Hotel in Tempe, Arizona for this delicious recipe. 

  • 2 oz gin
  • ½ maraschino liqueur 
  • 1 oz prickly pear sour syrup 
  • ½ oz lemon juice 

Combine and shake with ice. Strain into a china tea cup. Garnish with a lemon peel.
