There are few more magical places in Great Britain than Portmeirion Village. A small, Italian style hamlet in Wales, Portmeirion Village was created over the span of 50 years as a tourist destination. The LGBT-friendly resort village draws thousands of tourists to its shores for its uniquely Italian architecture and beautiful environment around it.
Created and designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis from 1925-1975, Portmeirion Village is a very unique place to stay because the entire village is the resort. Williams-Ellis acquired the land over time and used pieces from old, demolished buildings, and incorporated works by many known architects. The result, nearly 100 years later, is an entire resort village that looks like it is from the shores of the Mediterranean.
Take a step back in time through Portmeirion’s quaint village streets and enjoy boutique shopping for stationary, kitchenware, pottery, and souviniers. Walk along the sandy beach during low tide, stroll along the forest paths, and wander through to the remains of an old medieval castle. Portmeirion Village has fantastic boutique shops with kitchenwares, souvenirs, pottery, and more.
Portmeirion Village is a 3-D sensory overload, developed by artists under the vision of the owner and offering stunning scenes at every turn. You could spend a few hours or several days immersing yourself at the enchanting resort.
The resort grounds, including the shops, restaurant, coffee shop, and bar are open to the public daily from 10:00am – 5:30pm, with the street side shops and resort gates closing promptly at 5:30pm for non-overnight guests.
Whether you are in the village hotel or one of the many unique apartment style suites, every room comes with a complimentary 4oz bottle of sherry.
Overnight guests can use the large outdoor heated common pool overlooking the ocean. If you get hungry or parched exploring this stunning locale, the on-site restaurant has a fully stocked wine cellar and the hotel restaurant features Welsh beef and lamb dishes. Every guest receives a complimentary breakfast at the hotel restaurant.
Like something out of an Italian fairy tale, Portmeirion Village is a magical place to explore, relax, and enjoy while gaycationing in Wales. For more information about this amazing little seaside resort village, or to book your stay, visit: https://portmeirion.wales.
