Another year has come and gone, and another Remembrance Day is upon us. This is the day Canadians take to observe the dedication, bravery and sacrifice of fallen Canadian soldiers in times of war. Remembrance Day remembers those who have fallen for our rights and freedoms. Lest we forget.
The poppy became a symbol of hope and remembrance for Canadians because this flower grew along the Western Front during World War I. The poppy flower is worn by Canadians on Remembrance Day to celebrate and honor the Canadian peacekeepers and soldiers. We’re fighting a new kind of war – political and for equality rights as LGBT people. Let us not forget the queer people who have come before us who have made great sacrifice during times of war.
This week’s cocktail is the Canadian Hero as we honor the brave Canadians who have come before us, made with the truly Canadian spirit, Canadian whiskey. This Remembrance Day raise a glass to Canadian heroes with the Canadian Hero cocktail.
- 2 oz Canadian whiskey
- 1 oz maple syrup
- 2 dashes cherry bitters
Build in rocks glass filled with ice. Stir. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.
