After a record-breaking season, Broadway Across Canada has just announced their full 2020-2021 schedule. All you theatre kweens, get your purses and pocketbooks ready. Broadway Across Canada’s upcoming season of extraordinary theatre is coming the Queen Elizabeth Theater in Vancouver. Featuring returning gems like Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago, and Come From Away, the tour will also include the premier engagement of the hit show Hamilton as well as the musical adaptation of the classic Anastasia.

Beginning the 2020-2021 Broadway Across Canada Season with CHICAGO, one of the most successful musicals in history about murdererous housewives turned celebrity in razzle-dazzle 1930s Chicago. Returning to Canada with a newly revamped version for its 50th anniversary is Andrew Lloyd Webber’s JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. Next will be ANASTASIA, the story of what could be the last living remaining member of the Russian royal family, set in post-revolution Russia and 1920s Paris. COME FROM AWAY, the smash hit that has won numerous Best Musical prizes all across North America, chronicles the day’s after September 11th, 2001, and a small Canadian town that took the world on its shoulders. Finally, the last show of the season will be HAMILTON, the rock musical about one of America’s greatest founding fathers: Alexander Hamilton.

CHICAGO
September 15 – 20, 2020
Come on, babe! Why don’t we paint the town? From September 15 – 20, 2020, 1930s Chicago comes to Vancouver in the shape of one of the longest-running American musicals in history. Winner of 6 Tony Awards®, two Olivier Awards, and a Grammy®, Chicago is the story about the rise to fame and fortune, the price of celebrity, and the murderous antics of some very wild women.

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
October 28 – November 1, 2020

Winner of the 1971 Billboard Album of the Year, Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opereta about the life and times of—you guessed it: Jesus. Now in its 50th anniversary, the show’s latest revival in 2017 won Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival with classic songs like “Everything’s Alright,” “I don’t know how to love him,” and of course the title track “Jesus Christ Superstar,” JCSS is a smash hit musical that gives the classic biblical story of the life and times of Jesus Christ in an exciting musical format.

ANASTASIA
January 19 – 24, 2021

For the first time, the hot Broadway Musical Anastasia is coming to Vancouver with Broadway Across Canada. The last Czar and his family, the Romanovs, were savagely gunned down at the onset of the Russian Revolution, and no one survived. Or did they? Anastasia is a young girl with no memory of her past that could mean she is the last remaining member of the Russian royal dynasty. With 6 of the original animated movie’s songs and 12 new one written and created by original composers Stephen Flaherty (music) and Lynn Ahrens (lyrics), Anastasia is a gorgeous musical set in the backdrop of 1920s Paris.

COME FROM AWAY – SEASON OPTION
March 9 – 21, 2021

Most Canadians are familiar with the story of the small town that helped a distraught world deal with the aftermath of 9/11, but no other media than Come From Away has captured the story so beautifully. When 7,000 airline passengers suddenly become stranded for days in a small Newfoundland town, they were welcomed and taken in by the townspeople who didn’t even number 4,000. Come From Away is the hot new musical about the kindness and humanity strangers felt and the actions of a small Canadian town that would change the world forever.

HAMILTON
June 22 – July 25, 2021

With an incredible score mixing Broadway, Jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and pop, Hamilton is the musical that has seen more success most musicals ever have. Penned by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote In the Heights, Hamilton is the story of one of America’s greatest, but little-known (until now) founding fathers: an immigrant bastard from the West Indies, Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton rose to become one of the greatest figures in American history, including creating the US treasury and serving as George Washington’s Secretary of Treasury and right hand man during the war and his presidency. Hamilton is a very modern musical about America now, told in the story of America during its first years.
