Troye Sivan dropped a new jam, and it’s hot.

Capitol Records released the single, “Take Yourself Home.” You can download or stream it here.

The new song was initially set for release later in the year. But Troye reconsidered the song in a new context as he headed home to Australia and a period of isolation.

Its message couldn’t be timelier, coming at a time when WHO and governments worldwide urge people to stay home to slow down the spread of COVID-19.

Speaking about the song, Troye Sivan says, “Take Yourself Home’ is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written. The song is kind of a pep talk with yourself and the place you’re from. Grappling with your place in the world. I write these songs as a diary entry. Then, as life and situations change, and relationships change, songs can entirely take on a new meaning. That has happened for this song, with what is going on in the world right now.”

Furthermore, the song’s visual elements have come from freelance creatives that have borne the economic brunt of the pandemic.

Realizing that many freelance artists are struggling due to COVID-19, Troye called for creatives to develop visual elements for the release of “Take Yourself Home.”

Through an Instagram post, Sivan wrote, “FREELANCE ARTISTS (GRAPHIC DESIGNERS, ANIMATION ARTISTS) HMU I WANT TO WORK WITH YOU AND TAKE THE MONEY I WOULD BE SPENDING ON MUSIC VIDEOS AND GIVE IT TO YOU.”

The response was overwhelming with the pre-save page, lyric video, and other elements sourced from artists that responded to the solicitation.

Fundraising for COVID-19 Relief

Alongside the new song, Troye also launched three t-shirts, designed by @jacktaylorlovatt and @Lanning and sourced via Instagram. All proceeds go to the WHO COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund and Spotify’s COVID-19 Music Relief project.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is leading and coordinating the global effort and supporting countries to deal with the pandemic. You can learn more about the organization’s efforts here.

The Spotify COVID-19 Music Relief project, on the other hand, recommends verified organizations that offer financial relief to artists and other players in the music community. The project has partnered with MusiCares, PRS Foundation, Help Musicians and Unison Benevolent Fund, and is adding more partners worldwide.

Troye Sivan – “Take Yourself Home”

Troye co-wrote the song with frequent collaborator Leland (Selena Gomez, BTS, Charli XCX), Oscar Görres (The Weeknd, MARINA, Tove Lo) and Tayla Parx (Khalid, Ariana Grande).

“Take Yourself Home” captures a mood of isolation and longing. It goes from a lilting opening refrain with Troye’s trademark melancholy into expansive, rave-like choruses with a surprise deep-electro moment to close.

Troye continues to connect with fans while social distancing at home in Australia. Recently, he appeared on #HAPPYATHOME: Live!, TikTok’s global live stream series.

Troye has garnered more than 6.7 billion streams over his music career. His sophomore album, Bloom (Capitol Records), was named as one of the best albums of 2018 by critics at Rolling Stone, USA Today, Billboard, OUT, NPR Music, The Guardian, and numerous other publications. TIME said, “Troye Sivan is the perfect pop star.”

He boasts of numerous awards, including Billboard Music Awards trophy, three MTV Europe Music Awards, and two GLAAD Media wins.

His collaboration with Jonsi, “Revelation”, for the film Boy Erased, which Troye co-starred in – was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Original Song – Motion Picture, and shortlisted for an Oscar. His other tracks, such as “Louder Than Bombs”, a track he also co-wrote, is featured on the new BTS album, Map of The Soul: 7, which debuted at No. 1 in the U.S., Korea, Australia and around the world in March, 2020.
