The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all areas of industry and the lives of people worldwide, disrupting the economy, workplaces, health facilities, entertainment, and our overall moods in general. But not everything has been a complete loss. There have been a myriad of things and people that have captured our attention and put a smile on our faces as we stay at home in a bid to flatten the curve. HomoCulture runs down the list of everything and everyone that has grabbed COVID-19 by the nether-region and made it its b*tch!

Ina Garten

She may be well known as a chef, but when COVID-19 disrupted the word, Ina became known for her impressive mixology skills, showing her fans that during quarantine, happy hour can be whenever you want. By coaxing her fans into whipping up grand pitchers for the perfect Cosmopolitan, Garten gave millions of people a reason to celebrate from home and erase those Corona doldrums.

Dua Lipa

Initially on the fence about whether or not to release her sophomore album during the quarantine, Dua Lipa decided to throw caution to the wind and decided to put out Future Nostalgia and give her fans what they wanted. The neo-disco sonic extravaganza was exactly what the world needed. Complete with videos that paid homage to 80s fitness queen Jane Fonda and the essence of the era, Dua Lipa brought sexy back in a hot way in 2020, something we all could use a bit of right now.

In many circles, D-Nice is known as one of the perennial hip hop DJs since the 90s, with ties to some of the original stars of the genre. But in 2020, D-Nice took the art of Djing to a new level, streaming his club Quarantine virtually all over the world conveniently from his apartment in Los Angeles. Millions of people have tuned in and turnT up over the past few weekends, including former First Lady Michelle Obama, pop star Rihanna, media mogul Oprah Winfrey, and Senator Joe Biden. His playlist have included all the old school tracks we love, with remixes that have taken us back to those special memories that connect us all.

Put some H20 in your tuchus. When COVID-19 first hit the scene, for reasons still inexplicable, the first thing to run out at stores all around the world was toilet paper. To counter the shortage of TP, many people learned of the beauty of bidets for the first time. Although the bidet has been a mainstay in other parts of the world for centuries, in North America, these self-cleaning, jet-shooting devices saw sales rise over 300% as many households invited them into their homes – and holes – for the first time. In 2020, booty betrayal is a thing of the past!

Goodbye Skype, FaceTime, Google Hangouts! Previous versions of videoconferencing have always had a few minuses that made them necessary evils for most people. But during quarantine season, Zoom has emerged as the big winner in the field, with the company getting a 100% spike in stock sales this year and hosting a multitude of worldwide events that connected artists to their fans across all genres of entertainment.

The Cuomos

The epicenter of COVID-19 in America has been New York City, but thanks to excellent leadership under Governor Andrew Cuomo, and extensive coverage by his brother Chris Cuomo, the pair managed to assuage the fears of all the burroughs with coverage that kept everyone in the know and up to date on the latest news with the virus. When Chris Cuomo tested positive for COVID-19 early on during the crisis, he used his show to shed light on how it affected the body with daily updates on his status with his millions of viewers. As the city and country continue to recover, the Cuomo brothers have become the most unlikely of star duos.

Leslie Jordan

Last but certainly not least, arguably the biggest star during the season of quarantine has been none other than pint-sized divo Leslie Jordan. The veteran actor, known for his roles on Will & Grace and American Horror Story, has surpassed 3 million followers on his Instagram account since March as he entertains his fans with anecdotes on his Hollywood life. The salacious and sweet tales have endeared him to an entire new legion of fans, and there are many that don’t want it to end as he keep the laughs coming from his hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

With a list like this, the quarantine season has been bearable as we shelter away this 2020 and wait for a return to normalcy.
