Following up on the release of his debut EP Day One, South Asian pop singer Aman Dhesi, a Toronto native, returns with his upcoming single ‘What I Know Now’, which will be available across all digital platforms on July 17th. Last summer, Aman burned up the pop charts with the song, ‘Rise Up’, a hit dance single that quickly turned into an anthem for the LGBTQ+ crowd. As a proud member of the queer community, Dhesi had this to say about the lyrical content of the song that he posits as one that directly addresses the struggles of marginalized youth that are struggling with sexual identity:
“This song is for anyone who struggles with loving themselves. This song is me looking back and telling my younger self everything that I know now.”
Aman’s artistic endeavors began at an early age and in 2014, he performed at World Pride after becoming a national finalist in a televised singing competition. After moving from Vancouver to Toronto, Aman really began to test his mettle as an artist by laying the groundwork for his EP. Critics praised the singer’s first release, with Buzzmusic calling his debut “inspirational, powerful, and talented”.
His personal stories have connected with his audiences by inspiring, empowering, and motivating others through chronicling experiences on life, love, and reflection. Quickly gaining a following, his debut single ‘Change My Mind’ burst on to the scene, becoming a top 10 hit in the Toronto market, earning radio airplay in Nashville and New York.
Philanthropic efforts are dear to Aman Desi’s heart and through a partnership with the 519 Community Centre, Dhesi has plans to donate proceeds from his new single to support the programs and services that are focused on the LGTBQ+ community. The organization has a long history of providing resources for the LGBTQ+ community and their mission statement aligns with Aman’s own beliefs on how better to elevate disadvantaged youth.
