Originally built as the courthouse serving Powell River, a purpose-built, company town on the north end of the Sunshine Coast region of British Columbia, the building has been repurposed and renovated into a boutique hotel. Queer owned and operated, the Old Courthouse Inn is your home base while exploring the Powell River area on BC’s northern Sunshine Coast.

Overlooking the Georgia Straight and the Salish Sea, visitors to the Old Courthouse Inn are welcomed to the historic townsite, indulging in the look and feel of yesteryear. The Tudor-style property provides a unique opportunity to stay in a heritage building, making it the most popular choice with travelers to the area. The Old Courthouse combines the best of both worlds – a quaint, eight room hotel that is juxtaposed with modern amenities that today’s travellers expect.

Visitors to Powell River, an area renowned for its beautiful coastlines, stunning sunsets, and relaxing atmosphere, are in for a treat. The original courthouse building was home to the courthouse, judge’s chambers, police headquarters, and in the basement, the jail. The Old Courthouse has transformed the main levels of the building into guest rooms decorated with antiques and artwork. The fully serviced inn ensures guests have everything they need during their stay.

Since being fully restored and renovated in 1997, the updated building brilliantly merges the original building elements with today’s modern conveniences. There are eight different rooms to choose from, offering double queen, standard, superior king, deluxe queen, and superior queen. Each room is unique, with some offering a kitchen and scenic ocean views.

All guests have access to an electric vehicle charging station with their free parking, daily housekeeping room service, and a complimentary full breakfast at Edie Rae’s Café in the lower lobby. Kayak and e-bike storage is available, along with guest-use laundry facilities and a peaceful garden to sit and relax. Pets are welcome.

The Old Courthouse Inn is located just steps from the Patricia Theatre, Canada’s longest continuously operating theatre, The Hulks breakwater where seals and sealions are often found, a Pride rainbow crosswalk, a Belgian-style craft brewery, and the beach is just a short 3km drive away. The area is also popular for wildlife and bird watchers; and occasionally, orca and hump whales can be seen in and around the Powell River and nearby Lund areas.

The Sunshine Coast is one of the top regions to experience the west coast. It’s where the lush green forests meet the Pacific Ocean waters. Getting to Powell River is a wonderful journey, taking two quick ferry crossings on BC Ferries from Vancouver, and a drive up the scenic coastline, where you can discover markets, artisans, and craft brewers. Powell River was founded as the home of the world’s largest pulp and paper mill, supplying 25% of the world’s newsprint. Today, Powell River offers a new legacy as an adventure paradise with ocean and nature adventures in a peaceful setting. There are annual festivals and concerts, top-teir restaurants, and world-class art galleries. Start planning your trip to the Sunshine Coast today: https://sunshinecoastcanada.com
