Here comes the new year with expectations of a better life. After the year we’ve had, a fresh start is not only well-deserved but welcome.
As you usher in the new year, think about what you want to see in 2022, looking back on 2021. What kind of year would you want to have? What have you planned to accomplish during the year?
What got you here won’t take you to the next level. A new you will only come if you drop the habits that dragged you in 2020 and adopt better ones for the new year. Here are simple, practical things you can do to become a better version of yourself.
Start working out
Working out improves not only your overall health but also enhances your physique. It’s also great for your mental health.
If you want one thing that can transform your life in 2021, start working out. You don’t have to go to extremes; begin with light exercises you enjoy, such as walking or jogging, and build from there.
Eating better should be a top priority in 2021. As COVID19 has shown, food plays a significant part in improving our overall immunity. Healthy food also contributes to mental well-being, not to mention longevity.
Ditch highly processed foods and opt instead for whole foods. Go for quality or even organic foods over quantity and convenience. In fact, cook more at home, or try some international dishes if COVID-19 keeps you at home.
Read more and meditate
Seriously, even a few pages a day can improve your mental performance and expand your view of the world. Aim for solid stuff like books and articles instead of aimlessly scrolling through social media. In fact, reduce your time on social media to protect your mental well-being.
While at it, consider meditation. It’s a great way to relax and keep things in perspective. If the year we’ve had is anything to go by, mental well-being, peace, and relaxation can come in handy in 2021.
When was the last time you thoroughly cleaned your house and got rid of unnecessary stuff? We cling on to so many things that contribute nothing to our happiness. For instance, why are you still holding on to your ex’s sweater and underwear?
Go through your house in the new year and gauge every item. Then, KonMari that place until everything that’s left sparks joy and happiness.
Decluttering improves mental health. Getting rid of some items provides closure.
Seek new opportunities for growth and relationships
The new year provides endless opportunities to try new things. What’s the one thing that has been on your bucket list for a long time, but you’re too afraid to try?
Think of it this way: You only go through life once. Seek new opportunities to grow professionally and personally. Go for work opportunities and situations that excite you instead of settling in your comfort zone.
At the same time, realize that your progress is as good as those you surround yourself with. Seek friends that inspire and challenge you to become a better person. The same applies to dating.
Travel when the time is right
Travel changes your outlook on life. If and when Covid19 subsides or you get vaccinated, hit the road and explore the world.
Travel to uncharted places. Go out of the ordinary travel circuit and explore quaint places or communities. We’ve looked at some unique places in 2020 you should consider. Check out our reviews of some of the best places you can visit.
Change your look
Your wardrobe needs a relook in 2021. For some people, a complete overhaul. Dress like the new person you want to be in the new year. Explore outfits that take you beyond your comfort zone and enhance your look. You won’t attract that potential guy if you keep wearing the same things.
However, your look goes beyond your wardrobe. For instance, a change in hairstyle gets you noticed more. Try that and have fun with it.
Quality over quantity in sex
Gays love sex. That much is obvious. However, most of us confuse quantity with quality. You can have lots of one-off things that have no meaning (should there be any?) or opt for quality. These are experiences that leave you happy, fulfilled and in touch with your deeper self.
Seen anything that doesn’t feel, right? Speak up. Witnessed an act of discrimination or hate? Speak up. 2021 should be the year you stand up and speak up. Join with others, such as the Black Lives Movement, in demanding justice and better treatment of marginalized communities and people of colour.
Be more authentic
Finally, be more authentic. Own your strengths and flaws, and use them for good. Relate with people from a genuine place instead of the cloak and dagger approach that most gays take. Also, tell the truth as you pursue your ideals for the new year.
