Christmas is never complete without some warm, comforting mulled wine. This classic holiday drink is a traditional part of the holiday season and is popular across Europe during winter. It goes by various names — glühwein, vin chaud, bischopswijn, glogg — depending on the country.

Mulled wine is mainly prepared with red wine and several mulling spices that give your house a festive scent for the holidays. Think of all the holiday traditions that get you in the Christmas spirit — from ice skating, getting a Christmas tree, singing Christmas carols, wrapping gifts, or baking. Whatever the activity, a glass of mulled wine will make it worth remembering.

The mulled wine cocktail can be made and served in big batches from a slow cooker. Alternatively, you can whip it up on a stovetop and have it ready in less than 10 minutes!

  • 1 750ml bottle cabernet sauvignon wine
  • 4 oz brandy
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 4 star anise
  • 2 strips of orange peel

Warm all ingredients in a large pot over low heat until warm. Do not boil. Fill warm mugs or punch cups. Garnish each drink with a cinnamon stick.
