Today, the world comes together for the worst tragedy to strike the LGBT community in the United States. In the early hours of Sunday, June 12, 2016, at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida, over 50 innocent people were gunned down, and dozens of others injured. It was the largest mass-murder in United States history.
The LGBT community struggles to deal with the loss of brothers and sisters of the LGBT, Latino, and millennial communities. People are shocked, devastated, and saddened by the horrible act. People are rallying together, as a unified community, to grieve and support those affected by the terrible tragedy.
June is Pride month. A time when the LGBT community and advocates come together to celebrate the beauty, diversity, and strengthen of the community. It’s about people coming together and working to advance equality and counteract discrimination.

The attack on innocent individuals because of their sexual orientation, race, or ethnic background is an assault on humanity. It is a dark reminder of the need for overdue reform needed for federal and state control over access to guns in the United States, protection of human rights, and education of both equality and diversity. 
As the world searches for answers, the community must remain committed to the principles of tolerance and respect. Misguided acts of retaliation must be condemned to prevent backlash against our Muslim neighbours. Diversity is a source of strength and cannot be used to create division.
It’s time to stand for justice and quality for every member of the community during this extraordinary time.
