Canada
This might come as a surprise, but vines not only survive but also thrive in cold British Columbia. As a result, today we can get amazing Canadian wines that will definitely warm you up in cold northern nights. One of the most fruitful areas in BC is definitely Okanagan Valley where thousands flock each summer to fish, golf, hike and enjoy amazing Syrah, Merlot and Pinot. Canadian wines are usually very straightforward, made to be enjoyed without pretentiousness and fuss, so if you want to just chill out with a glass of vino, Canada is your destination.
Argentina
If you love sweet dessert wines, look no further than Argentina. The Cafayate area of Argentina has a very mild climate with low humidity, which is perfect for wine production and it produces the country’s best bottles. Argentina as a whole is famous for its Torrontés wine, a special type of dessert wine made in dry-wine style. It smells floral and sweet but can be quite acidic and dry. This fact makes Torrontés stand out, so you should definitely give it a try. If you’re even in Buenos Aires, don’t hesitate to order a Malbec. It’s fruity and strong, which makes it a perfect companion to a traditional Argentinian BBQ.
Australia
Australians made their name in the wine world with bold Shiraz, but there’s so much more to this country than that tasty, high-octane wine. For instance, if you go to Yarra Valley just east of Melbourne, you’ll be surrounded by amazing vineyards wherever you turn. This area is especially famous for its Chardonnay production, Pinot noir and all sorts of sparkling wines. Wine producers from Yarra Valley don’t have a specific style of winemaking, but they take pride in their natural production processes. All wines ferment naturally and can be labeled as natural wines. There are even other amazing types of booze you can down in Australia. When in Victoria, don’t miss a chance to try their best grappa, grape-based brandy that will definitely warm you up. It’s usually served as a digestive, but you can have it whenever, we won’t say anything to anyone!
South Africa
South African Franschhoek is a town that will provide you with gorgeous Cape Dutch architecture and even more beautiful vineyards. It’s best known for its Méthode Cap Classique sparkling wines, but their chardonnays, Sauvignon blancs and cabernets are also amazing. Hop aboard the wine tram and make visits to area wineries. If you want to visit a destination filled with amazing wine, but also perfect for various other activities like cycling, fishing and horseback riding, South Africa is where it’s at.
Serbia
Serbia is probably the most overlooked wine lovers’ destination in the world, even though it’s an established wine country since the 15th century. It has various great wine regions, but Fruška Gora is definitely the most famous. Expect to try some of the best Traminer, Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon in the world if you decide to visit this mountain region. However, their most interesting product is definitely Bermet. This sweet dessert wine is produced only in the nearby town of Sremski Karlovci and it’s so rich and beloved that it was served on British, Austrian and Russian courts as well as Titanic! Luckily, you don’t have to be of royal descent to try Bermet and enjoy its magical taste.
