Despite its name, the Amaretto Sour cocktail gets a bad rap for being an overly sweet drink. That’s because most people typically use a premade sour mix. You can improve it by using freshly squeezed lemon juice and going easy on the syrup.

Of the cocktail’s main ingredients, the Amaretto is the most distinctive. It’s an Italian liqueur usually flavored with almonds, and in some instances, apricot stones. This gives it a unique flavor that goes down well in various cocktails.

The egg white seems odd for a sour drink, but it gives the cocktail its body and a smooth, silky texture.

Give the Amaretto Sour Cocktail a taste. It’s one drink you’ll be proud to make (and drink) with friends this spring and deep into the summer.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ oz amaretto liqueur
  • ¾ oz bourbon
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • 1 tsp simple syrup
  • 1 egg white

Add ingredients to a dry shaker (without ice) and shake for 15 seconds. Add ice and shake again for 30 seconds—strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice. Garnish with a lemon twist.
