Daiquiri comes from a family of cocktails whose main ingredients include rum, citrus juice, and a sweetener such as sugar. The cocktail is named after a beach in Cuba, where the drink supposedly originated.
While this cocktail uses strawberries, you can have variations using bananas or avocado.
In its original form, the Daiquiri is a delicate and sublime blend of rum, the sweet freshness of sugar, and the tart taste of lime juice. However, most people get the proportions wrong leading to an extra sweet or extra-tart, slushie-like concoction – the stuff of blackouts and hangovers.
This particular daiquiri is great because it uses fresh ingredients, and no sugar, which is awesome for guys who are watching their calories and looking for a lighter, fruity drink this summer.
For a great tasting cocktail, balance all the ingredients. Juicing the limes with a hand-squeezer gives the cocktail extra intensity from the lime’s rind oils.
Ingredients
- 2 oz. light rum
- ¼ cup fresh strawberries
- ¼ cup frozen strawberries
- 1 oz fresh-squeezed lime juice
Add ingredients to a blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into glass and garnish with a fresh lime wheel.
