The more information that leaks about the new (and old) television shows set to come out this fall, the more people are planning on staying at home in front of the boob tube. The fall 2017 TV line-up is set to be one of the gayest seasons yet. Grab the popcorn, pour yourself a drink, and pull up a chair: The queerest season of television is about to start.
There are the tried and true shows that are returning featuring LGBTQ characters. Fans are more than looking forward to a new season of Orange is the New Black, Transparent, RuPaul’s Drag Race, American Horror Story, How to Get Away with Murder, Modern Family Empire, Gotham, Scandal, and new favorites like Riverdale, Supergirl, This is Us, One Mississippi, The Flash, Better Things, Broad City, and American Housewife.
But the fall 2017 TV line-up is gaying it up with these fantastic not-to-be-missed shows:
Star Trek: Discovery: Yes, you read that right. The reboot to the classic series has already made news with its diverse cast, but this prequel to the Star Trek franchise will feature its first gay character, played by Anthony Rapp of Adventures in Babysitting and RENT fame.
Top of the Lake: China Girl: While Elizabeth Moss made a global name for herself with her chilling turn starring in Amazon’s A Handmaid’s Tale, she starred in a series three years ago in 2014 called Top of the Lake. Three year later, the show has been given a second season called China Girl that will also star Nicole Kidman as an über feminist lesbian mother.
Dynasty: Yes, you read that right. This reboot to the classic 80s soap opera reportedly has a significant gay affair as a prominent plot twist.
Deuce: Thanks to several blockbuster shows that are considered some of the best television ever produced, HBO, the network that brought us The Sopranos and Game of Thrones, is back with a new series called The Deuce starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Franco about the pornography industry in NYC in the 1970s. Chris Coy as a gay bartender will be the tip of the queer iceberg from this highly anticipated series.
Heathers: This series, stemming from the 80s Winona Ryder flick Heathers that we all hate to love but love to hate, sees the three Heathers running Westerburg High in Orange County, but this time: two of the Heathers are LGBT.
Marvel’s Runaways: In line with its original comic-book source material, Runaways chronicles the life of lesbian teenager, Karolina Dean, who finds out her parents are criminal masterminds, and aliens.
Will and Grace: The Jack and Karen Show Will and Grace is back and better than ever in this series pickup that is probably the most anticipated show of the fall lineup. Each of the four main characters are back, and a transgender plot twist rumor is making the ways around social media.
While the weather outside changes from summer to fall, things are heating up on the small screen. Check out these hot shows as the queerest season of television ever is about to begin!
