Ah, the Golden Pineapple Kiss. A cocktail that not only looks like a tropical sunset in its yellow-orange hue, but also tastes like a tropical vacation in your mouth.
This cocktail has been a staple of gay bars for decades, but why? What does the colour yellow in this cocktail represent? And what does its appearance on the Gay Pride Flag mean for LGBTQ+ people?
From a colour perspective, yellow represents sunlight and as one of the three primary colours it can be mixed with other colours, like red and blue, to create a wide range of hues.
Yellow can also symbolize cowardliness as well as jealousy, but these are not traits associated with the Gay Pride Flag because its yellow center represents solidarity between all members of the LGBTQ+ community. It’s also representative of how hard it can be for people to come out about their sexuality and be accepted for who they are.
It is for this reason that we celebrate this amazing cocktail when we come together with friends and family during Pride Month. It reminds us that we’re not alone in our journey — that there are others on this same path with us.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Stoli Gold
- 1 oz pineapple juice
- ½ oz vanilla liqueur
- ½ oz lime juice
Shake ingredients with ice. Strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with dehydrated lemon slice.
