It was a packed night at The Pint in Vancouver on Friday night as eager party-goers watched the Hunt for Mr Ruff 2016 unfold. It was an intense evening as the four Mr Ruff contestants competed to see who would take home the annual title. When the scorecard was tallied, Shane took the victory and was awarded the title, Mr Ruff 2016!
The four candidates, Aaron, Anuar, Jesse, and Shane, were evaluated on three criteria areas, to determine which would come out as the winner. The evaluations were based on the number of online votes, the amount of donations raised, and marks from the panel of judges. Each area was weighted.
Combined, the Mr Ruff candidates raised over $3,000 for the Vancouver chapter of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a charity, protest, and street performance organization that uses drag and religious imagery to call attention to sexual intolerance and satirize issues of gender and morality. The Mr Ruff competition is Vancouver chapter’s single largest fundraising event of the year.
Colin steps down as Mr Ruff, and passes the title to Shane, who will assume the title for a year. While Shane took home the grand prize and title, Jesse went home with runner-up in the competition, and it was announced that Aaron would take on a new role as the manager for Ruff Seattle.
Following the Mr Ruff competition, the event continued with the Mr Ruff Party five-year anniversary party. DJ’s GingerBear Todd, Del Stamp, and Brett Law kept the dance floor packed until 3am. The room was packed with guys decked out in incredible outfits of leather harnesses, vests, suspenders, and chaps, rubber, denim, vinyl, and spandex.
Ruff parties have become a tradition in the Pacific Northwest, with events hosted throughout the year in Vancouver, Victoria, and Seattle.
