Ogopogo SourCanada has its own Loch Ness Monster! Well, sort of. The Ogopogo is the fabled lake monster of Lake Okanagan deep in the heart of British Columbia, Canada. But did you know there is a drink to celebrate this wild mythology?

Ogopogo, or Naitaka as it is referred to by First Nations people, is a mythological sea serpent reportedly living at the bottom of Lake Okanagan. Whether these First Nations were referring to a physical being or a water spirit has been argued over the centuries. But that doesn’t mean the folklore has ever stopped!

Perhaps you’ll have a chance to see the legendary creature while in Kelowna for Kelowna Pride. Or maybe if you tip back a delightful little cocktail named after this lake spirit—The Ogopogo Sour—you might catch an image of this legendary creature, yourself. A lovely nod to the fantastical spirit animal of Lake Okanagan, the Ogopogo Sour is the perfect cocktail to enjoy this pride season, lakeside or not.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 small egg white
  • ¾ oz kirsch

  • ½ oz fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ oz scotch
  • ¼ oz almond syrup

Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into a coupe glass. Dot cherry bitters over drink surface and connect dots with a straw.

Enjoy and drink responsibly.
