Before the ski and snowboard season closes out, the LGBT community is coming out, for the final event of the gay ski week and winter pride event of the 2016-2017 winter season, Peak Pride Festival. Big White Ski Resort, in the interior of British Columbia, home of the famous Okanagan champagne powder (snow), plays host to the inaugural event, April 7-9, 2017.
Originally a concept from co-producers Peter Breeze and Dustyn Baulkham, Peak Pride Festival celebrates its grand opening with a wide array of events and talent in a fabulous location.
“To see Peak Pride Festival come from a vision I had over a year ago to reality is empowering and it gives me goose bumps just thinking about it,” says Baulkham. “Taking over a mountain village like Big White is a big deal. It’s going to be one epic weekend.”
Drag Queen legend Alyssa Edwards is set to headline the weekend during Saturday night’s WipeOut Party. RuPaul’s Drag Race season 4 and Drag Race All Stars participant, Alyssa is one of the best-known drag queens and a favourite with Drag Race fans. Simone Denny of the band Love Inc (Superstar, Here Comes the Sunshine, Broken Bones) will headline the opening reception party Friday evening. Drag Performers from Calgary, Vancouver, and Toronto will also be performing.
“Thinking about picking up the talent from the airport and watching them do their thing up on the mountain is so exciting,” adds Breeze. “Now that the weekend line up has been confirmed, there is only one thing left for people to do: buy tickets and party!”
Baulkham and Breeze have been working closely with Big White Ski Resort including local business owners and establishments to guarantee ample number of events and activities all weekend long. Billed as a 19 and over crowd, Peak Pride Festival will feature several all-inclusive family events including the Saturday afternoon Ski Parade down the mountain, ending up in the village with activities for flks of all ages.

Most importantly, Big White Ski Resort is a come as you are, and who you are, world-class vacation destination.
“It’s important to know that all are welcome at our events and you don’t have to be party of the LGBT2Q+ community. We strongly encourage our ally friends to come out and enjoy themselves,” says Baulkham.
