Postcards

Travelling is a lot of fun. It’s exciting to discover new destinations, meet new people, and learn about different cultures. Today, we share our adventures with our friends and family in live time through email, text, Facebook, Instagram and twitter. But what about through postcards?

For generations people sent postcards home to friends and family, with quick notes on their journey and what they have been up to. Sending postcards were seen as being prestigious and very personal.

Postcards are still sold today at pharmacies, corner stores, bus and train depots and in airports. They are an awesome way to share a close, personal moment from your trip, and to let someone know that while you’re away on your adventure, that you’re still thinking of them back home.

For the receiver, opening up the mailbox is dreadful. It’s usually full of bills and unwanted flyers. But receiving a postcard from a far-off destination is always exciting.

When sending postcards remember these important things:

  1. Use the correct postage for the destination. When buying stamps, ask for the appropriate amount of stamps per postcard, otherwise it’ll never make it to its destination.
  2. Write the date on the postcard. Some people like to keep them in shoeboxes / memory boxes, and it’s a good way to look back and know exactly when it was sent.
  3. Include details like the weather, the activities you’ve done, people you’ve met, cultural tid-bits or even something like a fantastic cocktail you’ve discovered.

Postcards aren’t expensive and make a great impression. If you can’t find a post office to mail them, take them with you to your next destination and send them from there. It’s the thought that counts!
