Rising alt-rock band Slothrust has released their new deluxe album Parallel Timeline (Origins). Momentum is building for this bold album, which features a demo and new versions of select tracks from the band’s latest record Parallel Timeline, as well as commentary from bandleader Leah Wellbaum and drummer Will Gorin.

Parallel Timeline was released last September via Dangerbird Records and features the singles “Cranium” and “Once More For The Ocean,” which has received airplay at leading radio stations in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Seattle, Dallas, Philadelphia, and others.

The album has 19 tracks and has been featured on Consequence, Stereogum, Loudwire, and more.

Slothrust is an educated group of musicians with backgrounds in classical, jazz, and blues music, which gives them a distinct sound that is both unified and dynamic. The band has long been known for their infectious energy on stage, so it’s no surprise that their recent deluxe record leans into improvisation.

Distinct, unified sound

Parallel Timeline (Origins) was mixed and co-produced by industry legend Billy Bush and mastered by Heba Kadry, resulting in a masterclass balancing tenderness with Wellbaum’s fierce guitar work. With a distinct yet unified sound that blends progressive rock, acoustic tunes, and pop influences, Slothrust has never been more confident.

But what makes this album truly special is its vocalist and guitarist: Leah Wellbaum. Wellbaum has repeatedly shown herself as an artist who isn’t afraid to use her voice, literally and figuratively, to tell her story. And with Parallel Timeline (Origins), she’s done it again.

Leah Wellbaum is a queer woman who is openly LGBTQ+ and an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. She has long been outspoken about her queerness and has been an inspiration to many fans who have seen her as a role model.

Wellbaum’s queerness can be heard throughout her music, as she often explores themes of sexuality in past projects. Her lyrics relate to audiences who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, and they reflect many of the challenges those individuals face daily.

“Masterpiece of queer artistry”

She’s known for exploring themes of sexuality in past projects – most notably in their album Everyone Else, which many described as “a masterpiece of queer artistry.”

Everyone Else was modeled after 1990s pop culture and featured many references to queer people and relationships, including lyrics written solely from the perspective of women or non-binary people.

Now, with the release of Parallel Timeline, Leah Wellbaum continues to create an impressive body of work that captures what it means to be queer in contemporary culture. Fans are sure to love this new album as much as her previous work; it is undoubtedly set to be another hit for this rising star.

What fans can expect from Slothrust’s latest offering is a continuation of the themes that have made them such a beloved band among their growing fanbase: songs about queer love and desire, personal empowerment and perseverance, and self-acceptance.

Slothrust will be hitting the road to celebrate their latest album on The Parallel Timeline Tour. Fans across the US can look forward to hearing songs from the record as the band makes stops in at least 25 different locations, including Los Angeles, Portland, Baltimore, Brooklyn, Nashville, Chicago, Kansas City, and more..
