In case you missed it or want to reminisce, the magical Peak Pride, North America’s fastest growing ski weekend event, just wrapped up at the wondrous Sun Peaks Resort. Peak Pride is a series of fabulous gay ski weekend events hosted at independent ski resorts littered through Western Canada. It’s one party where all the He/Him/His, She/Her/Hers, and They/Them/Theirs get to hold hands and celebrate being fantastic in the snow. That’s right, it was one of the best parties of the year. All the snow bunnies, snow kweens, and bears let loose to romp and play, build community, meet new people, and don’t hold back. Here’s a look back at the second annual Peak Pride Sun Peaks, held February 26 – March 1, 2020 at Sun Peaks Resort, located near Kamloops, in the southern interior of British Columbia. 

The Gays Played All Day

While the focus of the gay ski/snowboard weekend took place across three mountain peaks, the entire four-days of on-mountain events was lit the entire time. The epic Sun Peaks Resort has a total of 137 marked runs, 569 cm of annual snowfall, and over 4,000 skiable acres. There’s a ski through village at its center, so no matter which mountain party goers challenged they always ended up meeting up at one of the resort’s many bars, clubs, and eateries with friends and family. 

Some partygoers didn’t even bother with hitting the slopes as the winter wonderland has absolutely everything needed to maximize enjoyment. The Sun Peaks Grand Hotel has a whole series of buffets, cocktails, spas, gyms, and arcades.  

Peak Pride Already Had A Game Plan

There was no need to come up with your own entertainment though. Just like last year, there was a full itinerary of events suitable for queer folk and allies of all ages. Check out the full itinerary so you can be reminded why you shouldn’t miss the next round:

Wed, February 26 
The first night was a warmup Film Night featuring, Alone in the Game, a documentary exploring the challenges facing LGBT2Q+ collegiate athletes and Olympians. 

Thursday February, 27
Things got a bit more heated the next day with a live performance by Vancouver Qusic artist, Matthew Presidente at Morrisey’s Public House. Things wrapped up with a free open mic night; everyone got the chance to be a star. 

Friday, February 28 
The real festivities started took place all day Friday with après ski. The whole family was able to ski and snowboard while having fun at Bottoms Bar (grown folks only)  in the heart of the Après ski village. There was also a comedy night at Morrissey’s with comediennes Kelby DeLaet and Emily Bolton headlining. 

Saturday, February 29
The crown jewel, pièce de résistance, crème da la crème, was the all-day winter pride day event. Gays and allies took to the slopes in the morning with a pre-Parade Party hosted by Sunburst Bar + Eatery. The party had a basic formula: take the Sunburst bubble chairlift to the top, get together at the top for a grand cheers, then ski/snowboard down the mountain  into the village, and then congregate at the après ski party.

The revelry continued well into the night with the much anticipated wipeOUT party – adults only, so you know it was wild. All the colors, costumes, and dancing set the atmosphere on fire.

Sun Peaks Resort really was the perfect venue for Peak Pride.
