After thrilling audiences at film festivals around the world, on January 9, 2020, the world television premiere of Queering the Script will air on OUTtv and Hollywood Suite. From acclaimed documentary writer and director of the film Gabrielle Zilkha and award-winning producer Stephanie Ouaknine, Queering the Script is a feature-length documentary about the fandom and history of queer women and love on TV.
Queering the Script celebrates the love and fandom for television and movie characters that are queer. The advocacy and activism surrounding the fandom can be almost cult-like, yet Queering the Script gives a certain humanity to queer love and acceptance through the medium of television and film fan adoration and stanning. The film illustrates how important fans are to producing and sustaining successful queer visibility.
Queering the Script portrays lgbt relationships from television shows like Xena: Warrior Princess, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Camilla, Lost Girl, and The 100. The film has cameos from stars like Lucy Lawless, Angelica Ross, Ilene Chaiken, and Stephanie Beatriz, with interviews of fan girls at multiple queer conventions.
Queering the Script is written and directed by Gabrielle Zilkha (Stop Calling Me Honey Bunn) and produced by award-winning producer Stephanie Ouaknine. The Film is executive produced by Christina Jennings and Scott Garvie, in association with the Canada Media Fund and Hollywood Suite.
“This is a film about loving earnestly and passionately,” said Queering the Script Producer Stephanie Ouaknine. “Loving fiercely, without shame. In a world that exalts cynicism and snark – there is something fundamentally joyous about the world of queer fandom, and its sheer positivity and sense of community.”
Queering the Script premieres Thursday, January 9 at 9:00 pm ET on OUTTv and Hollywood Suite. Check out the trailer below:
