For those of you who still cannot wait until 2019 for the 7thand final Game of Thrones season, there are still a lot of fun LGBT themed shows out there for your viewing pleasure. Possibly the biggest lineup of queer television is waiting just around the bend fo you to indulge in. Here are the top shows to be watching that either contain gay character, have gay sub plots, or are just gay as hell, in general:
Leading the pack is La Casa de Las Flores. Everyone is talking about this show and for good reason. Forget the fact that it is set in Mexico City and is all in Spanish. Turn on the subtitles for a wild ride with the Mora family, who own an extravagant floral shop: La Casa de Las Flores (The House of Flowers). Watch as the Mora’s lives are turned upside when the father’s mistress, who owned a gay Cabaret, kills herself, and leaves the family realizing they hide a lot of secrets, including the son, Julian, hiding his sexuality, and a transgender woman who had a son with one of the leading characters. It’s a hilarious and bizarre show in lieu of Desperate Housewives meets House of Cards meets Shameless meets Weeds.
Queer Eye. When Netflix picked up this revamping of the hit show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, everyone was skeptical. Now nominated for several Emmys, Queer Eye has already dropped two seasons in less than a year and is continuing to slay us. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll cheer for joy as the Fab 5 change people’s lives before your eyes.
The gayest and most celebrated queer of the season has got to be Pose. Openly gay director/producer Ryan Murphy had more than 50 LGBT actors cast, including the most amount of transgender people in history. Produced, directed, and starring queer people, Pose is a historically groundbreaking television show highlighting NYC’s 1980s ball and vogueing culture.
RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 4/ Season 11. The cultural phenomenon that is RuPaul’s Drag Race will be returning in the fall with…count ‘em and gag…two different seasons coming in the following months. Both season 11 and All-stars 4 have been officially renewed and announced on RuPaul’s World of Wonder website. Get ready to tongue pop, twirl, and slay as the greatest girls in drag will return soon.
And in case Drag Race doesn’t return soon enough, Netflix has given audience favorite drag superstar Allyssa Edwards her own show. Dancing Queen, which airs in October, is a documentary mini-series following Allyssa and her dance company she owns and manages. Forget the back rolls and tongue pops—you’ve never seen Allyssa, Shangela, and a bunch of dance moms in as much comedy and drama as you will in Dancing Queen.
Will and Grace: season 2. ‘Nuff said. Everyone will be watching the fab four return for the new season of the Will and Grace reboot series.
